About this work
Thanks to information from Peter van den Brink (Aachen), Guy-Michel Leproux (Paris), and Alexander Debono (Valletta/Malta), the panel, previously unconsidered in the literature on the Early Netherlandish painters and assessed as a work by an Antwerp Mannerist, could be attributed to Noël Bellemare after thorough restoration in 2013. Bellemare was presumably trained in Antwerp but worked in Paris from 1515 onwards.
