About this work

Julie Wolfthorn was born on January 8, 1864, in Thorn, West Prussia (now Toruń, Poland). After initial studies in Berlin, she moved to Paris in 1892 and studied at the Académie Colarossi. From 1895 onwards, she lived again in Berlin and was one of the four female founding members of the Berliner Secession in 1899. Throughout her life, she campaigned for the rights of women in the art world.
