About this work
The portrait shows the pianist and composer Marguerite Karolina Alioth (1874–1962). She was the daughter of Ludwig Rudolf Alioth (1848–1916), a pioneer of the Swiss electrical industry, particularly of electric mountain railways (see Historical Dictionary of Switzerland, www.hls-dhs-dss.ch/textes/d/D29890.php, last accessed March 14, 2013).
