About this work
The painting belongs to the group of "Gallery Pictures" that Oskar Schlemmer created during his time at the Bauhaus in Weimar. A first, fleeting draft can be found on the left half of the sketch sheet ZB 98 (Will Grohmann and Tut Schlemmer: Oskar Schlemmer. Drawings and Graphics, Catalogue Raisonné, Stuttgart: Verlag Gerd Hatje, 1965, no. ZB 98, p. 233, fig. p. 232).
