About this work
The model depicted is Mrs. Darwin, a model of the Städels in Frankfurt am Main, who reappears multiple times in Roederstein's work. Cf. the mirror-image lithograph "Portrait of an Old Woman or Mrs. Darwin" (1895), Städtische Kunstsammlung Hofheim a. Ts. (Inv. 475/88), cf. illustration no. 94 in Rök 1999, p. 142.
