About this work
According to letters from Carl Burckhardt, the Italian model for the Amor figure was named Battista. The sculpture was created during Burckhardt's stay in Rome and was therefore also called the "Roman Head" by the artist. It is part of the unfinished life-size sculptural group "Zeus and Eros," in which Eros, kneeling before the seated Zeus in an adoring posture, faces him.
