About this work
The commissioner of the painting, which shows the return of two women from Palm Sunday festivities, was Count Gourieff, who ordered a total of three paintings from the Swiss painter Léopold Robert in 1821. The artist wrote about this in a letter dated 27 April 1822 to Sophie Huguenin: "Il y a maintenant à Rome une exposition de tous les tableaux qui ont été demandés à plusieurs artistes de Rome par M.
