About this work
The scene of the arrival of a peasant wedding couple in front of an inn possibly belonged as a counterpart to the halt in front of a tavern (according to the inventory card sold in 1910 from the collection of van Alen at Müller & Cie in Amsterdam, lot 164). Several versions of the latter subject exist by Victor, cf. e.g. the mirror-symmetrically composed to our picture composition in Sumowski 1983, Vol. IV, No. 1806.
