About this work

Listed in the Brussels exhibition catalogue 2003 as "Paysage d'Arcadie." The landscape is the focal point of the miniatures. These are not realistic but Arcadian landscapes. "Van Orley invents a world without suffering or anxiety, a universe of simple joys, dancing peasants, shepherds flirting with shepherdesses, which belongs to the tradition of the Flemish landscape since Rubens."
