Still Life with Skull, Books, Flute, and Pipe
From the collection of Kunstmuseum Basel. Free to download, adapt and use — no permission needed.
About this work
Steenwyck painted several still lifes with skulls on which a cap is placed. Compare, for example, the signed paintings in the Dordrechts Museum in Dordrecht (Inv. No. 453) and at Christie's New York, January 12, 1996, lot 174. In both, flutes are laid down next to the skull as here.
