About this work
On the almanac on the back wall, the year 1630 can be read. Dated 1630/31 by Hahn-Woernle; in the Strasbourg/Aachen catalog dated after 1630. The open music book contains the top voice of a five-part composition by Orlando di Lasso (1532–1594) based on a rondeau by Clément Marot (1496–1544) titled "Un bien petit de pres me venez prendre." Fitting the vanitas theme, the poem deals with a debtor's request for a payment deferral. The piece was first published in 1571.
