About this work

The attribution to Bernhard Strigel stated in the exh. cat. Augsburg 1886 was confirmed by Alfred Stange in 1957; later editors of Strigel (Gertrud Otto, Munich 1964; Edeltraud Rettich, Freiburg i. Br. 1965) did not mention our Laurentius panel. It belongs rather to the wider circle of Strigel. Stange considers its belonging to a predella together with a crucifixion of approximately the same format, which was last in the London art trade (Francis A. Drey) around 1950.
