About this work
The plaster casts (Inv. P 6.1 – P 6.10) were taken from the terracotta reliefs that adorned the house of Walter Böcklin, the brother of Arnold Böcklin, in Clarastrasse 17 in Basel as a frieze. The reliefs depict putti illustrating scenes from a pottery workshop. The representations were presumably created in collaboration by the two brothers. It is assumed that the motifs were designed by Walter Böcklin, a master potter (Korte 1906).
