About this work
Deviating from the common heraldic scheme, the central field of the pane, behind the pyramid of the Lucerne cantonal coats of arms and the crowned imperial coat of arms, shows a Christian scene: The Agony in the Garden. Above the columns, two further picture fields with scenes from the life of a saint (St. Anthony?) are inserted: A burial and an exorcism. The unusual iconography of the central panel for cantonal panes could point to a narrative cycle with further Passion scenes.
