About this work
Depicted is an episode from Homer's "Odyssey" (X, 210–359). During his wanderings, Odysseus lands on the island of Aiaia. The sorceress Circe, daughter of Helios, rules the island and turns all visitors into animals, including Odysseus's companions, whom she transforms into pigs. When Odysseus searches for his companions, he meets Hermes, who equips him with a healing herb resistant to Circe's potion, so that nothing happens to him.
