About this work
Around 1916/18, August Babberger got to know the Schächental and the Klausen Pass (Canton Uri) through his Urner wife Anna Maria Tobler, painter and poet. From then on, he regularly spent his summer in his hut on the Balmalp at the Klausen Pass, where he created the bulk of his landscape paintings (Andreas Gabelmann: Faszination Hodler. August Babberger und die Rezeption der Schweizer Moderne, in: Die Schweiz und der Deutsche Südwesten, Ostfildern 2006, pp. 141–153, esp. pp. 148–149; Gabelmann).
