About this work

KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- In this aerial view, Space Shuttle Discovery is seen on Launch Pad 39A, waiting for launch on mission STS-92 Oct. 5, 2000. The opened Rotating Service Structure to the left shows the vertical passage used to lift payload canisters to the Payload Changeout Room for transfer of the payload to the orbiter. The white area at left on the ground is the slidewire basket field. The slidewire baskets are part of the emergency egress system from the orbiter.
