About this work
KENNEDY SPACE CENTER, Fla. -- Space Shuttle Discovery lifts off Launch Pad 39A against a backdrop of xenon lights (just above the orbiter’ nose and at left). On the Mobile Launcher Platform beneath, water begins flooding the area for flame and sound control. The perfect on-time liftoff occurred at 7:17 p.m. EDT, sending a crew of seven on the 100th launch in the history of the Shuttle program.
