CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. – Water from the rainbirds floods the mobile launcher platform as space shuttle Discovery rises from NASA Kennedy Space Center's Launch pad 39A on the STS-128 mission. The water helps with sound suppression. Above Discovery's nose are two of the xenon lights that surround the pad. Liftoff from Launch Pad 39A was on time at 11:59 p.m. EDT. The first launch attempt on Aug. 24 was postponed due to unfavorable weather conditions. The second attempt on Aug.
