About this work

Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — On Launch Pad 39B, workers check one of the two trucks that move the rotating service structure (RSS). In preparation for the July 1 launch of Space Shuttle Discovery on mission STS-121, the RSS is being rolled away from the shuttle. The RSS provides protected access to the orbiter for changeout and servicing of payloads at the pad. The structure is supported by a rotating bridge that pivots about a vertical axis on the west side of the pad's flame trench.
