Kennedy Space Center, Fla. — In the transfer aisle of the Vehicle Assembly Building, United Space Alliance workers get ready to attach the lifting sling to space shuttle Discovery that will hoist it off the transporter. Discovery will be raised to a vertical position and lifted into high bay 1 for mating with the external tank and solid rocket boosters waiting on the mobile launcher platform. Discovery is targeted for launch to the International Space Station for mission STS-120 on Oct. 23.
