About this work

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- In the Payload Hazardous Servicing Facility at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida, United Launch Alliance technicians guide a lifting device toward half of the Atlas V payload fairing for NASA's Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) mission. The fairing has been uncovered, and preparations are under way to clean it to meet NASA's planetary protection requirements. In the background is the other half of the fairing, still uncovered.
