The inscription on this small wooden patent model reads “JOHN W. HILL & O. G. H. DAVIDSON AUTOMATIC GRAIN WEIGHER.” Hill, a mechanical engineer in Dayton, Ohio, assigned half of his rights to this invention to a local mechanic named Christian Herchelrode.
