Patent model for Thaddeus Fairbanks, “Improvement in Platform-Scales,” U.S. Patent 205,623 (July 2, 1878). According to the patent, the novelty of this scale “lies in the work under the platform.” Thaddeus Fairbanks (1796-1886) was a founder and proprietor of E. & T. Fairbanks of St. Johnsbury, Vermont.
