Patent model for Ernest C. Bankwitz, “Weighing-Scale,” U.S. Patent 331,020 (Nov. 24, 1885). Bankwitz, a machinist in Bridgeport, Conn., claimed that his counter scale was “extremely sensitive” as well as “simple in construction, economical in cost, durable, and always ready for use.”
