About this work
Ikka decorated the bowls and lids of this set with well-known combinations of motifs from Japanese art, such as a goose with autumn grasses, irises with the bridges of Yatsuhashi, or a horse with a gourd. The latter pair is a reference to Chokaro, an immortal who on command could make a magic horse appear from his gourd.
