About this work
This figure comes from one of the shrines at Candi Loro Jonggrang, the largest Hindu temple complex in Central Java. The three most important temples in the complex are dedicated to the gods Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma. Although the identity of this male figure is not known, the halo behind his head signifies his divine status. Over his left shoulder is a sacred cord.
