About this work
The two figures in the background are the lovers Cui Yingying and Zhangsheng, who are reunited here after an unhappy period. Their misfortune was caused by a general intent on forcing Yingying to marry him. To save her, a letter from Zhangsheng was delivered to another general, who came to her rescue.
