Plate with the coat of arms of Groningen

In the beginning of the 18th century, large dishes decorated with the coats-of-arms of Dutch cities and provinces were made in China. They were probably decorative plates meant as embellishment for an interior. The Dutch patron most likely dictated the design, which in the case of this plate is the coat-of-arms of Groningen with the two-headed eagle.
