About this work
The elegant pear-shaped body and plain surface of this teapot were highly prized by the Chinese cultural elite. Regrettably, the cover was lost. On the bottom of the teapot is the mark of a celebrated 17th-century master potter. This was common practice among the Yixing potters, who would carve the mark of a well-known master into their teapot, either to increase its value or as a tribute to their predecessors.
