About this work

Simple ivory chess set. The pieces have a vase shape with a round, flaring foot, decorated with a palmette border. The king and queen are shaped like pavilions, the bishops as stylized mitres, the rooks as towers with flags, and the knights as horse heads. The pawns have a vase shape with a flame.
