About this work

Two-sided signed painting on paper mounted on a bamboo fan, housed in a silk cloth within a wooden box. The front depicts an old woman with devilish features breastfeeding a blushing pink boy; around her a moonlit rocky landscape with a kaki fruit in a basket on a branch. The back shows flowing water in a rocky landscape. The images on the front and back align when viewed against the light. The box is signed by the owner, likely Fujisawa Nangaku (1842-1920).
