Men's Nagajuban with Musicians
From the collection of Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Free to download, adapt and use — no permission needed.
Underkimono (nagajuban) for a man with a decoration on the upper half of the back panels of three musicians: a young man in a kimono with maple leaf motifs and a hand drum sitting on a lacquer box, a seated woman in a kimono with banana leaf motifs and a young man in a kimono with bracket-shaped squares, both with a three-stringed lute (shamisen). On the ground a tray with smoking utensils and a room screen with a landscape in the background. Probably a reference to a pleasure house, where the guest (with smoking utensils) is entertained with music. Nostalgia: clothing and hairstyles refer back to mid-17th century fashion. Brown silk with stenciled yuzen decoration. Lining of brown silk.
