About this work

Underkimono (nagajuban) for a man with a decoration on the back depicting a young couple walking under an umbrella in a snowy landscape with a willow tree, bamboo, and two mandarin ducks in water, surrounded at the top by clouds. Probably inspired by a print by Harunobu. The two ducks are a symbol of fidelity. The bottom of the back panels features a pattern of the characters 'fuku' ('fortune') and 'kotobuki' ('long life'). Brown silk with stencilled yuzen decoration. Lining of white silk.
