About this work
To make cloisonné decorative works, metal wires are arranged in a pattern on a copper base. The resulting compartments are filled with glass paste, following which the object is fired in a kiln. Sometimes metal particles are added, yielding a sparkling effect. With its multitude of colours in a design with different motifs in ornamental bands, the style of this dish is characteristic of the late 19th century.
