Guhyasamaja Akshobhya

Gilded bronze image of a male and female figure seated in vajrasana posture in a sexual, tantric embrace on a double lotus seat, faces turned towards each other, each figure with three heads with crowns and six arms holding flaming attributes: thunderbolts (vajra), ritual bells (ghanta), dharmachakra wheels, swords, jewels and a lotus flower. The attribute in the right-lower hand of Guhyasamaja is missing. Polychrome decoration in gold with detailing in red, blue, black and white on the faces and crowns. Clothing, jewelry and crowns set with turquoise. The base of the seat sealed with a bronze plate with engraved line decoration depicting two crossed vajra (vishva vajra) symbolizing the four directions. The male figure Guhyasamaja and his female consort Sparshavajra embody the Guhyasamaja-tantra and are manifestations of the cosmic buddha Akshobhya, a minuscule image of which is visible on the crown of Guhyasamaja, also in the form of two intertwined male and female figures.
