About this work

Porcelain dish with round, ribbed wall and scalloped rim, painted in underglaze blue. On the flat surface a hunting scene with two armed riders, one with a bird on the hand, in a landscape, hunting an animal; the rim with a linked band of lotus scrolls with ruyi motif, between which auspicious symbols (conch, parasol, vase) and treasures (artemisia leaf, pearl, rhombus, books); the reverse with sixteen separate flowering branches. Marked on the underside with the six-character mark of Emperor Chenghua in a double circle. A crack in the rim. Blue and white.
