About this work

Painted over the glaze of this bottle is a landscape with three men: one carries a firearm, another wears a tiger skin and holds a spear, and a third fights a tiger with his bare hands. This is a scene from the outlaw novel Tale of the Water Margin (Shuihu zhuan), in which the noble bandit Wu Song defeats a tiger.
