About this work

Deep plate of porcelain with upright wall and sloping, scalloped rim, painted in underglaze blue. On the flat surface two cranes beside a flowering plum branch and plants in a scalloped medallion; on the wall and rim around the medallion six petal-shaped compartments with antiquities (books, vase with peacock feathers and scepter), treasures (artemisia leaf, diamond, books) and Taoist symbols (castanets), between the compartments separate flower branches; the back with flower scrolls and six compartments with ruyi motif. Marked on the underside with the character 'Yù', jade, in a double circle. A chip in the rim. Blue and white.
