About this work

Rectangular copper box with rounded corners, black lacquered. On the sides, flower branches inlaid in mother-of-pearl. On the lid, a rebus within a rectangular mother-of-pearl frame. The figures of the rebus are inlaid in mother-of-pearl. The solution to the rebus is: "He who claims the goat, takes it by the horns." Below the rebus, within a diamond: N.19. On the inside of the lid, the signature in gold of: A : Scholl van Egmond (according to the enclosed paper: Abraham Scholl van Egmond, born 4 October 1910, died 31 March 1871).
