About this work

Porcelain washbasin, painted in underglaze blue and overglaze red, green, black, and gold. On the flat center a flowering branch; surrounding it are six radiating compartments, three with a heron featuring a honeycomb pattern and three lobed compartments with a flowering branch. The lower part of the cartouches has a continuous decorative band alternating hatching and a honeycomb pattern. The rim features chrysanthemums on 'karakusa' vines. The outer wall has two plum branches. The rim has been broken; several chips in the footring. Imari.
