About this work

Porcelain bowl with flaring wall set in a gilded bronze mount, painted on the glaze in red, green, yellow, black, and brown with figures in a landscape. The bowl is completely covered with a greyish, crazed glaze; on the wall a battle scene with warriors, some on horseback, three persons in a pavilion and on a gate attacking; on the inside of the bowl a woman offering tea to three scholars at a pavilion; the rim has a decorative border with alternating a pattern with rosettes and a lobed cartouche with lucky symbols. The contemporary, possibly French, mount has two ears, an openwork rim, garlands, and a square foot. Underside with four-character Xuande mark. Famille verte.
