About this work
Europa is carried away by Jupiter in the guise of a bull over the sea. On the right, Europa's handmaidens are in despair on the beach. In the background the scene that precedes this: Jupiter gives his son Mercury the order to drive a herd of cattle to the beach, so that he could mingle among them as a bull and approach Europa unnoticed. Below the representation, two times two lines of verse in Latin. The print is part of an album.
