About this work

Philip II, King of Macedon, looks through a crack in the door during the conception of his son, Alexander the Great. He is said to have seen his wife Olympias lying with Jupiter in the form of a snake. As punishment for spying, Philip loses his right eye. He is caught by some courtiers in the background. Numbered in the upper right: 1. Drawing forms part of an album.
