About this work
Pygmalion kneels before the statue of Venus, later called Galatea, which he had carved himself and fallen in love with. With his right hand, Pygmalion touches the statue's belly. On the ground lie a hammer, chisel, a sculpted bust and head. Sheet 46 recto from a sketchbook with 63 sheets.
