About this work

Woman to the left, in a costume of black satin, here presented as "the very latest from Paris". She wears a Kapot of black satin, fastened with five painted buttons and open at the bottom. Underneath, a red and a blue skirt and a transparent skirt of linen. The Coquelicot falls over the shoulders. On the head a hat of felt, decorated with a red band and bow and cock's feathers. Red shoes. In hand an elegant English "work-bag". Print from the fashion magazine Journal des Luxus und der Moden, published by Friedrich Justin Bertuch and Georg Melchior Kraus, Weimar, 1786-1826.
