About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) to his mouth and blowing over the pan (the powder reservoir) (no. 15), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the musket, a burning match. In his right hand a powder flask. Plate 15 from the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, belanghende t'rechte ghebruyck des Roers. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, 's-Gravenhage, 1607. Military affairs around 1600.
