About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a certain type of firearm) at his mouth and blowing over the pan (the powder reservoir) (no. 15), ca. 1600. In his left hand, besides the musket, also a burning match. In his right hand a powder flask. Plate 15 in the instructions for handling the musket. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, Amsterdam, 1608. Military affairs around 1600.
