About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a certain type of firearm) with his left hand (no. 7), ca. 1600. With his right hand he presses a burning match onto the cock (part of the ignition mechanism) of his musket. Plate 7 in the instructions for handling the musket.
