About this work

A soldier, full-length, facing right, holding a musket (a specific type of firearm) with his left hand by his left thigh, the barrel pointing diagonally upwards (no. 23), ca. 1600. With his right hand he is opening a powder horn. Plate 23 from the instructions for handling the musket: Corte onderwysinghe op de figuerliicke afbeeldinghe, belanghende t'rechte ghebruyck des Roers. Part of the illustrations in: J. de Gheyn, Wapenhandelinghe van Roers Musquetten ende spiessen, 's-Gravenhage, 1607. Military affairs around 1600.
